Shape script editing annoyance
« on: April 19, 2021, 05:30:03 pm »
Uffe suggested that some time ago and now that I have to use V15.2 it's evident: when you try to edit a shape script you need to hover the ellipsis button in order to click it. But right when you're over it that popup window with that scrambled base64 hides it! Not that it brings any useful info (my brain refuses to decode base64 on the fly). No: it also makes clicking the ellipsis a blind flight. (Well, in 13.5 you at least were able to aim the ellipsis a  it better although it also popped up with that base64 blurb.) It's quite obvious that no Sparxian is ever using that.

I just keep telling myself: I get paid for the pain, not the fun of using a tool. Once it was both fun and payment :-(

I've never used the ellipsis button to edit shapescripts.

I always do Edit with Profile Helper | Shapescript | Edit

I ONLY use the ellipsis, so I agree (in its current incarnation)  it's less than optimal.

I never use any Helper (like Clippy and so on) since those are just indicators for broken UI design.

In this case the helper is actually a functioning GUI. The "normal" GUI is completely inadequate to edit stereotypes.
It would be better if EA made the helper the default editor like they do with tables and stuff like that.

You sometimes till need to use the normal GUI as they have not yet implemented everything in the helper, but 95% is there.
The best part is that I don't have to consult the manual for all the magic attributes name (_meaningForwards and stuff like that), and I don't have the risk of a typo messing up my profile.

Maybe once they make it a normal GUI. As long as it's some helper I help myself. EA and GUI will always be EAUI. It always got worse. How I miss those times before the war when everything was better :-/
