Validation and Use Cases
« on: December 15, 2021, 09:32:06 am »
Hi, I am trying to use the validation tool (manage -> validate -> validate current package). All works fine except for use case diagrams where any  <<extend >> or <<include>> relationship between use cases generates two errors: "Include is not legal for Use Case A --> Use Case C" and "Invalid combination of source and target types for this connector type". This only occurs if "Relationship well-formedness" is one of the selected checks and occurs for both UML and SysML diagrams. In addition to my own diagrams, I also tried out the example that comes with EA and some that I downloaded but the issue persists. For the time being, I can of course just deselect that check but that's a bit pointless for future use with other models.
Does anybody know what's going on here or could you please give me some advice on how to fix this?
Thank you.

It's probably a bug. I think I remember something about that in the early v15 days.

Have you tried with the latest version? If it is still an issue there, make sure to report a bug to sparx (see link on the bottom)

Hi Geert
Thank you for the reply. I was 1 release behind and updated but unfortunately, that did not fix the issue. Will do a bug report now.

On a side note, found your site and will delve into your validator today as it might be just the ticket.

Cool, you'll need a fair bit of EA technical knowledge to write good validator queries, but it is pretty powerful as well.
Let me know if you need any help

Thanks Geert, that’s very kind of you.
I have a fairly simple model I am working with at the moment, but the “deep technical knowledge” is something I will have to work on.  By the by, is there a resource you would recommend for me to learn from?

Cheers

Rob
