How to change icon in project tree
« on: April 09, 2013, 04:11:20 pm »
Hi

When the user modifies an element I need to change the icon in the project tree (behavior like in an programming IDE)

How to go about that - any pointers ?

thanks

Dear Danny,

if you are NOT using Stereotypes, you can Create a new Stereotype <changed>. However i would not recommend it, it blasts away the possibility to use stereotypes  >:( :o :-[

I also had this idea of changing the project tree, which is (from my point of view) not possible.

Things I tried:
MDG technologies
Using additional package informations (VICON)

What I did afterwards:

  • Created a new project tree, which can do whatever I want (slow, not very practicable)
  • Changed the name of the effected elements "Elementname(changed)"
Both solutions are NOT very nice

I ended up with:
  • just set the element.status to "Changed"
  • automated each related connector (and their relations) from the changed element to Yellow in diagrams
  • Created a search function for the colored connectors and changed elements
Best regards

Stefan

Yes, unfortunately we cannot change the icon in the project browser. I've seen the question pop up a few times already.

You can always send a feature request.

zuut :(

thanks for the replies.

Great things could be possible with EA but there are some annoying restrictions. :(
I think they need to make it more customization friendly

The tool is much too generic and 'all purpose' for my audience.

Well, you can allways create your own implementation - which is really valueable.

Unless to many other tools EA is really customizeable, however not in all directions.

Mostly - after maybe a half a year - I understood those limits.

In which industrie sector you are working for?

Hi stefan

I'm working for a software company which has around 250 analysts.
Some 100+ projects, in different stages of their life-cycle, all related to the same domain.

In time, we want all our analysts, to work with EA and we want them all to work is roughly the same way.

So ideally we want to offer them a customized (yet not restrictive) way of working with EA.

If possible we would like to customize  :
- the context menus
- the dialog boxes
- visual aspects (like the icons)
- ....

Danny,

For 250 analysts it may become worth it to create your own version of the project browser.

Looks like a very interesting project! Need any more help?
