"No Embedded Elements" when Drag&Dropping Elements
« on: September 21, 2022, 09:34:09 pm »
Hi!
I do not understand in which circumstances I can drop a component with all of its sub-components and when not.
My example:
The DiagnosisOut component has two sub-components (named "attributes" and "operations"). This is visible in the project browser and also within a component diagram, which is also named "DiagnosisOut".
If I a drag and drop the DiagnosisOut component now into another diagram, I can not choose anything within the "structural Elements" drop-down menu, I would have expected here that I can select the "DiagnosisOut"-component diagram. Why is that? I would like to see all subcomponents in this case...

Hi,

Every element is unique and independent of another elements, although you see all them as only one in another diagrams. In another words, you see "DiagnosisOut" with its components as only one, but really, there is a relationship among DiagnosisOut and another elements.

What I'd do to see what you wanna see in a new diagram,  I'd use the element to keep trazability and  create a son diagram from the element which drive to the new one, and chage the element view.

I hope it could work.

EA never drops sub-components along with the parent. There are also two kinds of sub-elements. Some like ports can be turned on/off via the Features window. Nested classes in contrast are not listed there. You need to drop them manually onto the enlarged parent. N.B. the previous are just two examples. Indeed it's a bit confusing but at some point you get used to it.
