Activation Code bound to License?
« on: April 18, 2023, 06:45:18 pm »
Hi

Can someone please explain how the "Activation Code" works. Is this bound to the licenses somehow?

The reason I am asking is because we have PCS setup with a Floating Licenses Server. But we have three different batches of licenses of the Sparx EA Corporate edition (We made three separate purchases). These all have different Activation Codes.

When we configure the Floating License Groups, we can enter the Activation Code. But dependent on the which "license batch" that the license gets picked from, the Activation Code might not match the license. Will this cause issues?

The activation code is linked to the version or time when the license was purchased.

The goal is to ensure that you cannot use installed updates after your "support" period of one year is finished.
So it would be best to use the latest activation code.

Agree with Geert.

The part of the original post I don't understand is:

Are you using PCS? The reason for the question is that, since it is not a mandatory field and floating license groups are a bit flaky, we have never used to the Activation Code shown in https://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/16.0/the_model_repository/webconfig_add_or_edit_group.html. Instead, we just enter it for each individual installation or upgrade.
