How to add elements to the left/top of existing diagrams
« on: June 14, 2023, 08:24:28 pm »
Hi,
if I have an existing Component Diagram which already has a lot of elements in the top left: how can I conveniently add elements which shall be placed left of the existing elements or on top of it? Other programs I know have an "endless" sheet, which automatically expands as soon as you place an element on it and there is not yet enough space.
Does EA have such a setting?
The only way at the moment for me: mark all existing elements, place them to the middle of the sheet so that there's enough space to the left and top.

Try the alt-drag feature.
That should allow you to drag everything down/right with relative ease.

Okay, thank you.
Not quite state-of-the-art by EA, but maybe it is improved in the future.

The "usual" way is to press Ctrl-A to select everything and then drag it away so you have space. Many ways to Rome...

First I misinterpreted "alt-drag feature" for Ctrl-A and dragging (like qwerty wrote). This I already used, but did not know about the alt-drag feature and looked it up. For any newbie: https://sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/16.1/modeling_fundamentals/move_diagram_sections-alt_keys.html
That feature is nice to know, also for other use cases, e.g. when I just want to move a part of my diagram's elements.

(Nevertheless, it would be good if EA offered an automatically expanding sheet.)
Thanks for the answers.
