Virtual Diagram
« on: July 18, 2013, 05:29:17 pm »
Hi,

last weekend I had a very nice idea in addition to the traceability window, but dind't find a way to reach it.

With an addin i want to create a new Diagram, fill it with a selected Element and populate all related elements to it.
Within the deep thought, i should be possible - BUT

I don't really want this diagram within the model therefore, which possibilities do i have?

  • Remove The diagram after closing?
  • Add the Diagram, save it as picture and than remove it
  • Virtual diagrams?

Does Anyone has i nicer idea than the topmost? Or even better, does anyone know how to build a virtual diagram?

Regards

Stefan

Stefan,

What do you want to do with this "Virtual Diagram"?

Hi Geert,

generally: Nothing.

I just want the visual way of all relations of an element drawn together on one screen.
Second idea: A little slider with refresh this diagram and add the elements according to the relations depth.

 8-) 8-) 8-)Would be pretty cool  8-) 8-) 8-)

So, it would be the greatest to have a virtual diagram for it, which is not used within the project.

Why not creating and disposing the diagram as ImagetoCLipboard: You cannot "explore" the image and its elements. Sometimes it is nice to open them :-)

Stefan

I'm not convinced that a diagram is the best tool to use for such an effect.

But anyway, I think the best thing you can do is to actually create the diagram and delete it after use (e.g. on the OnCloseDiagram event)

Paolo had that idea some years ago and also has an add-in. He calls it neighborhood diagram. However, he did not market it.

I create such diagrams manually in almost all cases. Having it automated would be a plus for a UML modeling tool.

Stefan

Do you have any administration, Project Management or set-up packages in your project? For example, the element Templates package? You could put such things in a Simple View and also create your Related Elements diagrams in there, if you don't want them in your modeling areas.
Best Regards, Roy

Hi,

@Dermot: I know about "related elements" - I got the idea for it about it.

@RoyC: Unfortunately this is my choosen way  :( It would be nicer if the diagram would only be a temporary view than a correct diagram. However I will have to do it in this way  ;)
