Using OV-2 to fill in Svc-V2 and SvcV-6
« on: January 15, 2014, 07:16:32 am »
We are successful in developing an OV-2 and generate an OV-3 from it.  We have no progressed to developing the SvcV-2 and then the SvcV-6.  Several of these entries can come directly from the OV-2 (i.e needline names).  Does anyone know how to successfully do this?

Bill,

I didn't understand a thing of what you are asking; and I'm guessing I won't be alone.
You might need to elaborate a bit.

All the acronyms are from UPDM (DoDAF and MODAF)

Once I suggested that we create friendlier names for the diagrams in that technology but was told that users of that technology know the diagrams by those names.

Unfortunately, I have little knowledge of this area besides that.

For a broad over view of each of these names and the correlation between the UPDM naming and the DoDAF naming see the whitepaper on UPDM on:
http://community.sparxsystems.com/white-papers/748-updm-2-0-modeling.

A needline is basicaly similar to  InformationFlows. It is a case of finding the source/target & needline ExchangeElement and re-using this in the new diagram - see page 19 & 28 of the paper.

Simon is correct.  We are doing modeling following the UPDM, mainly the DoDAF.  OV is an Operational View, SvcV is a Services View.  CJCSI 6212.01F dictates what columns are required.  Again, Sparx does a decent job of auto-creating an OV-3, based on the OV-2.  Now we would like to auto-create portions of the SvcV-2/6.  I attempted to go to the White Paper pointed out by Dermot, but evidently I am not a member of the Community.  I am a Registered Used for Sparx, and a member of the Sparx Systems Forum; seems to be I should be a member of the Community by default.  Maybe that is something Sparx could work on. I will now attempt to create, yet another, user ID and password for the community.

Funny thing with the community. Sparx is not really promoting it (at least here on the forum site). From my POV both resource should be tightly bound. Well, my fingers bleed from repeating myself.

This must be true.  I have also submitted my credentials to the Community and have not yet received my e-mail from the Community as a member.  Therefore, I cannot see the entire White Paper.  Not sure it will help because I do not know if Sparx has written the code that I need yet.

Bill,
The Community site section for whitepapers doesn't require that you be a member to download the PDF.

The download link is under the social media links where it says "Download attachments".
Give that a mouse-click and you should have access. We do want the whitepapers accessible to all (unlike other sites).
P.S. there is direct link to the Community site on the main page of our web site.

Dermot, Thank you very much for assisting me.  Please forgive me while I become familiar with the all the separate portion of the site!  I did find the download link and I now have the White Paper.  Allow us some time to review it.  I will probably get back to you with more questions!
