Newbie question: integrating EA with CMDB

My organization is trying to get our arms around all of our technology investment.  Last year we focused on ITIL service management and Configuration Management so we already have a CMDB in house.  This year we are trying to tackle EA.  So I want to avoid duplicating information from the CMDB in our EA (Application and Technology) repositories.
I know I can import that data initially, but I woul like to avoid maintaining it in two places.  Is there a way to "reference" CI info from the CMDB?  If not, what is the best way to keep the EA and CMDB databases in sync as systems are added or modified?
