Change the element name shown in project browser
« on: November 14, 2014, 10:28:20 am »
Okie, so I have had a damned good Google and am pretty sure that what I want to do is NOT possible, but would just like to have it confirmed.

For some of my stereotypes, I would like to change what appears in the project browser.
Rather than displaying the element's name, I would like to concatenate a few of the tagged values together and display the result.

Alternatively, I would like to auto-magically set the element name to be the concatenation of these tagged values.

If none of that is possible, I will just write a script that is run periodically that will do this to the elements in question.

Any assistance gratefully received.

Cheers :-)

The browser just shows the name of the element and eventually (parts) of the stereotype. The icon can somehow be changed IIRC but ICR how. So if you want to add the TV contents to appear in the browser that would mean you need to put it either in the name or in the stereotype (or in an icon :o). Neither seems to make much sense. So probably you should think of another road to walk?

Yup, figured as much.
I always like to ask just in case my Google-Fu has failed me  ;)

Thanks Q.

You could store your new value as an "alias" of the element name, and then configure your diagrams to show "alias".

I use this functionality to record logical and database names of elements, and flip the view according to the audience.

Ooops, missing the "in the project browser" bit.
