Hiding Package (and other) stereotypes?
« on: May 30, 2015, 06:30:56 am »
Hello everyone,

following the tutorial in the online help, I have successfully managed to provide a custom stereotype for the Package metaclass (which the auto-correct somehow tries to change to "meatballs" all the time...). This stereotype assigns a number of Tagged Values to the package that are then used by my add-in. Basically it's all working as intended, there's just a slight usability problem. For my use case, every package beneath a namespace root needs to be equipped with the Tagged Values, so every package receives my custom stereotype. This makes using the project browser very uncomfortable. Furthermore, I will need to extend this to other metaclasses as well - every class and interface will have to be extended with Tagged Values as well. If I keep littering the EA UI like that, it's not going to be very user friendly. Is there a way to hide a stereotype or at least to somehow setup a rule like "If the MDG technology / UML profile is set as the currently active technology, then don't show this profile"?

Thanks
  Volker

I don't think you can influence what is shown in the project browser.

There is one global option: Tools | Options | General | Project Browser | Show Stereotypes

I never noticed that before (you learn something new every day :))

On the other hand I wouldn't worry too much about it. Users easily get used to having the stereotypes there. After a short while it won't bother them anymore.

Not showing any stereotypes in the project browser anymore seems a bit radical.

You might also be able to do something with the Package Browser. It's more clunky to use for navigation, but it doesn't show stereotypes.
