Transition from Data Flow

Does anyone have experience with the transition from Data Flow Diagrams (DFD's) to UML diagrams?

We've been using DFD's for many years and will switch to Activity Diagrams.  

• What are major do's and dont's?
  
• Does anyone have an example DFD and corresponding Activity Diagram?

I have never use UML to complete a project but  as I know you combine flow chart with Physical DFD you will have an Activitydiagram
Does anyone have a complete UML Diagrams for design phase a sample project  ?
