deployment model - detail
« on: May 03, 2005, 04:21:38 am »
Hi
I am using EA 4.51 - desktop edition.
I am trying to put as much detail on my nodes in the deployment diagrams. I have defined web servers, application servers, database servers etc as individual nodes.

How does one add information such as

- geographic location of nodes
- hardware used for nodes
- no of physical instances of the nodes, e.g 2 web servers, 2 app servers, one database server.

Is it via tagged values or attributes.
Or is it some other built in feature.
Tagged values sounded reasonable. however when I generate the documentation it doesnt appear on the generated docs.

Thanks
Bholey

Don't forget Run State ... see EAExample - amount of memory etc. (Thanks Thomas for telling me last year !)

I found using diagram frames a good thing for the geographic distn model.
Hardware summarised in the run state and described fully in the notes. Stereotypes for the server "type".

At summary level model I used multiplicity for the node instances (thanks TK) even though it doesnt show.  At detail level models each instance is shown (otherwise IP addresses etc cant be run stated.

...the node instances ..

now show up with 5.0 :)

Regarding diagram frames: you can drag a diagram completely onto a second one (from the browser). You are then asked how to, and Diagram Frame is one possibility. What you see then is a diagram within a diagram. The boundary can represent some kind of border. Never thought of it that way, but I surely will try (thanks Bruce for the hint) :)
