Gates on Combined Fragment Frames?

With reference to http://sparxsystems.com.au/resources/uml2_tutorial/uml2_sequencediagram.html:



How do you draw this diagram so that the gate moves when the fragment moves? In fact, I'm having a hell of a time drawing this diagram at all. How do you get the message between the gate and the inner lifeline, for instance?

You have to be careful with the z-orders to get correct behviour here!
