Modelling Data Transformation

Hello All,

I'm developing a data model must consider some of the other data sources it will exchange data with. I've successfully reverse-engineered the other data models into the database.

As I design my own database, and compare it to each of the interface models, I would like to document the data transformations that must take place to move the data from database to database. What is the best way to do this in EA/UML?

The artifacts I capture here will serve as the first cut of the design of the data transformation code to be implemented.

Note, one goal here is to keep the data modelling process as quick as possible and not load it down with a whole bunch of design work for the data traqnsformation layer. I simply want to capture what the results of my database to database comparison.

Currently, I'm thinking of creating a transformation class that will be associated with both tables and the operations I define will show how the data is transformed. Seems like more work than I want at this step.

Any suggestions?

I'm not aware of any real standard for data transformation models (or even a lot of useful guidance, and I've looked, believe me). If there is one, or even a good methodology, I'd love to hear about it.
