overlay UseCases over an  activity diagrams ?
« on: July 30, 2007, 07:20:13 am »
Hello,

I have modeled some ActivityDiagrams and found this interesting documentation at the Sparx site:
http://sparxsystems.com.au/resources/map_uc.html

As far as I understand the description, I should draw these (red) areas around the activities to show the topics covered by a useCase.

But how is this red rectangle created ? Is it an UseCase dragged and dropped from the tree converted to something different ? Is this red rectangle a real UML relevant element or just a visual ?

How do I overlay UseCases onto an activity diagram ?

Regards
Bernd

Ok, found out, it is a simple "boundary element" with an instance classifier linking to a UseCase.

But how can I quick jump to the UseCase ?

If I click onto the boundary, only the popup of the boundary attributes come up. I would like to jump to the UseCase instead (just like to a composite element).

Any help oder idea is welcome !!

Regards
Bernd

Hi Bernd,

Try adding a hyperlink to one or both of the diagrams. There's been some forum discussion about ways to handle such transitions. It was quite a while ago, but I believe a combination of composite elements (and their associated diagrams) and hyperlinks seemed to provide the best results.

One small caution, hyperlinks are difficult or impossible to set through normal automation methods. I don't know if this has bee addressed in EA 7.0, but it was the case through EA 6.5.

No, you can't have it!
