Linking Projects?
« on: August 01, 2007, 04:41:08 am »
Hi
We have 2 Projects which started out as being seperate but now seem to be converging with some common middle ground
My colleague & I have built each our projects and now we were wondering how we could somehow link the 2 projects so that the common elements were only created once but represented in each Project
Is this possible? Suggestions?

This is a bit difficult once you've built the projects, but there is a way.

Look into the Import/Export Package functions in EA. There is a setting in the Import Package dialog that allows you to strip GUIDs from imported elements. If you don't strip the GUIDs, you'll get the same elements as were in the source (i.e. the project from which you did the export).

There will be some work involved, since you've created different (but similar) elements, once for each project. You'll have to decide which one should be preserved and which should be replaced, and do this for each element.

Once you've got a single definition for each element you will need to figure out how you'll coordinate updates (since you could modify the elements in either project). Still, you will be on your way.

PS: Search this forum and read through the Resources page on the Sparx site. There are plenty of hints on managing these things.
No, you can't have it!

Inconsistently correct systems DON'T EXIST!
... Therefore, aim for consistency; in the expectation of achieving correctness....
