Help importing a UML pattern
« on: September 04, 2013, 02:04:08 am »
Hi everyone,

I'm new to using EA, and I am wondering how I can generate code in C# for a GoF pattern. I have found this seemingly outdated procedure to import the UML pattern.

http://www.sparxsystems.com/resources/developers/import_uml_patterns.html

and the UML patterns seem to be here as well:

http://www.sparxsystems.com/resources/developers/uml_patterns.htm

Can someone give me better instructions on how to do this. When I try to follow the instructions it tells me to "Switch to the Project Resource tab." which I don't see, I also don't an Import UML Pattern option. These instructions are all using seemingly non-existent options.\

Any help appreciated,

Ed

You might have fallen into one of EA's pitfalls. Check the View/Workspace menu and check that all menus are turned on.

A while ago, the Gang of Four patterns were moved from the Resources tree into their own technology. Go to Settings > MDG Technologies, find "Gang of Four Patterns" and tick the Enabled checkbox next to it. Then go to the Toolbox, click More tools... and find the "GoF Patterns" toolbox. Drag one of these onto your diagram and you should be good to go.

Before you explore the Sparx Systems website to get information on a subject, search through the Help provided with your release of Enterprise Architect (Help buttons and the blue circle with a question mark are liberally placed throughout the product. Or press F1.) The index should get you to whatever information you want.

We are constantly updating the online Help, although we can't get everything bang up to date at the same time. However, there is a page on the GoF Patterns that shows you exactly the Toolbox that KP talks about.
