baseline notes

Typing a carriage return while entering notes on a create baseline dialog executes baseline creation. There's no way to type a carriage return into the note - though the presence of the scroll bars on the right of the text entry box certainly suggest that was the intent.

Sounds like they just forgot to trap the CR. Hopefully this will be resolved before 7.1 production. Perhaps in beta 2...

Firstly, the field is really intended to take just a short note such as the date of creation.

The scroll bars on the New Baseline dialog are grayed out, and therefore inactive.

There is no provision for displaying multi-line notes on a Baseline - once you create the Baseline, the only place you can read the notes is on the Manage Baselines dialog, which is a one-line-per-entry list. If you type in a long note on the New Baseline dialog, you subsequently read it on the Manage Baselines dialog using the horizontal scroll bar to scroll left-right

That all makes sense Roy.

Perhaps sometime in future the name of the field - at least on dialogs - could be changed. Since "Notes" is a multi-line text field in so many other places I can see you might get a lot of questions like this thread.

Actually, the field name is "Note:", in the Help and in my latest version of EA.

Well, at least it's not the same.

Given this thread, and the fact that I didn't see it - but I'll be the first to admit that's not definitive - it still might be good to change the terminology.

The problem is solved though, and IMO the change in terminology is certainly not a high priority.

Hmmm - looking back over the posts here, I see it wasn't anyone on this thread who suggested we replace Notes with Note. It must have been Harvey. So, yes, perhaps a more significant change to the field names would be good, at some point.

I also thought I had won 20 million dollars, but that must have been Harvey too.

Such big rabbits, and still we seem to lose track of them all the time.

As to the 20M, perhaps that's the same bundle I thought I'd won, though I thought it might be more. Tell you what; I'm willing to share. Send me 10M, and keep the rest for yourself. If it was more you're welcome to the extra. Certainly that's fair...   ;)

Oh very fair, certainly. The trouble is, both Harvey and the $20M have disappeared. That Wascally Wabbit must have run off with the $20M note. If it had been something other than a Note, he wouldn't have been able to run so fast....

An added Note - i've got millions to share around - When I click on create baseline, I would like a small place to enter a comment about what this baseline represents - other than a time stamp.

Not a big deal but when I click in the text field and the cursor goes to the end of the time stamp, my reflex is to hit return to enter my $0.02 note - but that just generates the baseline. So then I have to write a paper note which the Wascally Wabbit takes and runs away.

Well, there are two directions you could take here:

1) On the New Baseline dialog, in the Note field, you can delete the timestamp and type whatever you want, on a very long single line. Subsequently you can read that note on the Manage Baselines dialog using the scroll bar to scroll along the item. The functionality you want is there and you can use it now.

2) You want the Note field or something additional to take a multiline note with carriage returns. Having entered this text, you want some way of retrieving it to read and (possibly) edit, because the Manage Baselines dialog doesn't allow this. The functionality does not exist, so you have to define what you want and submit a feature request.

On the whole, I think the way things are now is mostly correct. The single line is (probably) a short description, meant to be useful in drop-down lists and such.

I meant that sometime in future, the word "Note" should be changed - on dialogs and other places visible to users - so as not to be confused with other "Notes" throughout EA.

OK

Keep the timestamp but take it out of the note field. Make it a non-editable attribute somewhere else; Why edit the creation date anyway?

Let users type a string (no carriage return) in the Note field. You can keep the Note name. It's a one-line note.

Don't forget to send this as formal feature request via the Support page.
