Refresh of EA Elements on shared Oracle Repository
« on: March 27, 2008, 03:18:38 pm »
Hi all,

we have about 120 floating EA licences and a number of projects using the product in various ways... I was on a project with about 7 people and we were synchronising via MS Access Jet engine but ran into problems when synchronising mass changes from reverse engineering - MS Access synchronisation issue (documented)... So we bit the bullet and moved all our work to ORACLE and apart from the start up time - it seems to be hanging together.

My issue is this - when I change elements in EA on ORACLE - other users can't see this data unless they do a contents > reload package... sadly this takes almost as long as shutting down EA and restarting (2 minutes)... this is not good... Is there a quicker way????? OR is there a fix on the way?

ps: I am the main driver of your product here....

What version of EA are you using?  There was an optimisation for model loading in Oracle that would also effect the Reload Package introduced as part of 7.1.

I don't think there is a quicker way than what you have described, but then in my experience I can generally get by without needing to reload the tree.  (I tend to access diagrams and do searches)

Hi Simon,

we are using version 7.0 build 818 - but will download 7.1 today and give the ORACLE optimisation a fair go.... thanks for that...

Will let you know if there is much of an improvement - I know that our  ORACLE load time problem was caused mainly by CLOBS (Character large objects) - do you know if this is what the optimisation involvesd... Where can I get info on the optimisation?

thanks

Hi Simon,

Have had problems downloading the upgrade, I have the user id and original password, but for some reason this no longer works.

The original documentation sent with the product read "Your user ID and password give you access to the registered user section of our website at http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/registered/reg_ea.htm. This area contains important information about latest releases, product updates and support.

Please note: We reserve the right to change your password for security reasons (we will advise via email if this is to occur). "

Our User ID is "ea0507" and I had no problems downloading version 7.0 - can you send me the new password please to my official address at the DET in NSW.

I need to download the official corporate version - not the trial version. Once I attach the licence keys is there any difference between the public and official version?

In the meantime I will try and track down who originally purchased the product as they may be sitting on the new password update email.

thanks

Al

Hi Al,

You'll have to contact our sales department for licensing issues as I'm in the technical area and can't do anything.

The trial version is a different executable to the licensed version and can't be registered.  However, as far as general functionality goes they are identical.
