Sequence Diagram performance issues on 7.1
« on: May 22, 2008, 05:50:19 pm »
We have recently done an upgrade from 6.5 to 7.1 and are seeing a couple of issues with sequence diagrams:

i) Open time of diagrams has gone from less than 2 seconds to 20-30 seconds.

ii) Adding a message to a diagram is also sometimes taking around the same amount of time.

I have tried this with JET3.5, JET4.0 and MySql and the problem does go away using MySql. I am trying to introduce this to our project but it its taking time to get the process approved.

I mailed EA support about this and was told adding functionality does reduce performance which I accept but a 10-15x slowdown would appear to be a regression to me.

I have used ProcessMonitor to look at what EA is doing whilst loading the diagram and it is writing huge amounts to JETxx.tmp. I guess this is the JET library itself.

Has anyone else seen this issue ?

Regards

Mark

Hello Mark,

No, I haven't seen a slowdown of that degree.  But, yes I agree, that degree of slowdown is a regression issue.

I'll be replying to your original email myself today to ask for more information, and please accept my apologies for the previous unhelpful answer that you received.
