Auto Counters
« on: October 25, 2005, 02:04:41 am »
Does anyone know how to setup autocounters on a project that apply across the project.

We have a project.  I setup an auto-counter for the Requirement element type e.g. REQ0001.

I create a new Requirement element, press Auto and get REQ0001.  SO far so good.

My colleague loads the same project, create a new Requirement element and presses Auto, but gets nothing.  He setsup an auto-counter for the Requirement type e.g. REQ0002.  When he nexts creates a Requirement element and presses Auto he gets REQ0002.

When I then create a new Requirement element on my machine and press Auto I get REQ0002.

Do auto-counters only apply to a specific EA Users machine or is there some way of making them project wide?

Kierien.

Good question. I would have expected the last counter in a table. If you don't share that table, it's clear why it won't work. So probably you should tell how you share the repository.

Thomas,
This could another part of EA's UI (Unique Interface)  While your expectation is reasonable, it may not be correct...   :(

Hopefully the Sparxians will put our minds at rest...

It definately saves the auto counter to the database, and in a quick test between two users here it just worked.  So I'm not sure what the problem would be.

Simon,
Good to hear.

Just as a curiosity, where is it stored?
