Opening the Model Views Window
« on: August 26, 2008, 11:29:40 am »
For EA Help:
The Model Views window enables you to encapsulate your model into the areas you are interested in. You display the window by selecting the Views | Model Views menu option.

1) On my EA 7.1 (build 832) I don't have a Views menu.

2) On my View menu there is no Model Views item.

Can anybody tell me how to open the Model Views window?  It seems like a neat idea - I just can't use it...
 :'(

TIA,
Paolo

On mine there is. Did you customize your menu?

Not as far as I'm aware, Frank.

What are the menu items to the lefft and right of your Views menu?  And are there also Edit, View, Project menus?

Try performing Tools | Customize | Menu | Reset.

Sorry Paolo, there's no "Views" menu, only a "View" menu. and this has a "Model Views" item. If yours hasn't then maybe you once pressed some magic key combination that did away with it and need to reset the menu bar.

No sorry Aaron,

That didn't do it ether...

However, I DID find it (by EAUI)...  That is, entirely by accident (not by design)!

If you right click in a blank menu area, you get a context menu the LOOKS like the View Menu - but IS different!  On THAT context menu is the Model Views [Ctrl+Shift+5] item...

Is this corrrect behaviour?

Should the Model Views item be on the View menu?

FWIW, I see a View (singular spelling) menu near the left of the main menu, as: File | Edit | View | Project ...

This is where it has always been.

Note that the project I looked at was created before build 832. I've not tried a new project. I used the patch kit, so my EABase has not been replaced by build 832; this might be worth checking by someone who's installed from the full kit.

I also get the menu Paolo saw when I right-click the menu bar.

David

Hi David,

FWIW, My EA is a full replacement; but, like you, the project was built a long time ago.

Do you have the Model Views item on your View menu?

Interestingly, on this machine at least, the Model Views window is NOT sticky as the others are...

Is this the standard behaviour for this window?  If so, why is this window different from the others?

I definitely have the Model Views entry on my Views menu.

As to whether the MV window is sticky, I'm not sure what you mean. My 'pin' seems to default to keeping the window visible. Of course I could change that.

Sometimes the MV window comes up as an independent (not docked with any others) pane between the Project Browser and such, which are on the far right, and the main window.

Sometimes the MV window comes up, again as an independent pane that is on top of the Project Browser. I can still see the Browser since it is wider then the MV, but the MV is definitely on top. The MV window behaves well, in that it can be minimized by unpinning it and let's the Browser take over.

I've not used this often - at least not any time recently - and I have seen no pattern whatsoever to tell me which way the MV pane will come up. AFAICS I have used the same sequence of keystrokes to invoke each behavior.

David

PS: If you don't see the MV entry on your Views menu I suspect you've somehow got the old settings. Given that you did a full install this is a real mystery. Did you have a customized menu before?

Try performing Tools | Customize | Menu | Reset.
Memo to self:

When doing a Menu reset, MAKE SURE you don't have more than one copy of EA active!   :'(

The Model Views   [Ctrl+Shift+5] menu item is NOW on the View menu.    :-[
