RPC Server Unavailable

When I try to start EA it shuts down immediately and the following entry is en my event viewer:

An unhandled win32 exception occurred in EA.exe [3416]. Just-In-Time debugging this exception failed with the following error: The RPC server is unavailable.

I checked the Remote Procedure Call service. All options are disabled so I can't stop or restart the service. I rebooted the PC and got the same result. I am running Windows XP SP3 and there have been no recent upgrades. EA worked fine when I last used it a week ago. I would appreciate any guidance.
