I am desparately searching for this direction indicator ([ch9658]). Can you please post a brief instruction how to get this indicator or a link for further reading? I tried for several hours but could not figure it out.

Joerg, give your association a name then right-click the name's text label and set the "Direction"...

this is part of what we users call - EAUI (Enterprise Architect's Unique Interface).   It's something you'll have to get used to (since it doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon).
