Performance problem
« on: January 16, 2009, 09:20:21 pm »
Hi!

I've some performance issues when working on larger projects (700 diagrams with 5000 elements using an sql-server for storage)

When clicking an element it takes 7-10 seconds before the element actually gets selected - very frustrating. I've compared with other machines at my company, other less powerful ones select elements instantaneously.

I have no performance problems with any other applications and I've tested shutting down everything else. I'm running Vista.

Does anyone have the same experince and a solution?

Do you have the Hierarchy window open and visible? That can really slow things down if you have the options set too high. Go to Tools > Options and on the General tab set "Max Hierarchy View Depth" to 5 or less and "Open Hierarchy View to Levels" to 3 or less.

The hierarchy window will slow things down regardless (for any decent model).  However, it IS a very useful window!  I have mine set as part of a cluster but only activate it (select its tab) when I really want a look and immediately deactivate (select another tab in the cluster) after.

Thanks for the hierarchy tip, unfortunately it does not improve my performance. I've hidden the hierarchy window and also checked the settings, they are as you recommend.
I've also tried to reinstall the application but that didn't change anything either.

It's probably worth putting in a bug report - the support team should be able to help.
