EA Load Time

Is it just me or does EA 7.5 Beta 3 take a long time to load (20-30 seconds)? And I just mean loading the application shell, not a project once the shell is loaded.  I first noticed this when I was doing some experimentation with an automation project and experienced a huge delay using the Repository.OpenFile method.  I don't want to report this as a bug if it is normal, but it does seem excessive. Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?

What have you set as the default edition for the beta? If it is one of the new 'trans-corporate' editions the load time could be considerable. All MDG Technologies you have enabled by default must be loaded as EA starts up, and each takes some time. The new editions each include several fairly large MDG Technologies. The total time for startup is correspondingly longer.

Interesting...I wish they had a way of trimming this down so that automation projects wouldn't suffer so much.

You can disable loading of selected technologies if you won't be using them for a while. This has to be done on each workstation, but is not difficult. You can re-enable them later using the same process.

Start EA - you don't need to open a project for this - and from the main menu choose Settings | MDG Technologies. The resulting dialog shows a list of technologies (on the left side) with check boxes. Clear the ones you don't need for the time being.

Click OK to exit the dialog, the close and restart EA. You should see some (limited) improvement.

If you've set an MDG Technology to load by URL that will also take some time to do the DNS lookup etc. If you're concerned about load time in this case it may be better to download a local copy of the technology file and add a file path to it instead.
