Activities in BPMN1.1 invisible in project browser
« on: July 30, 2009, 12:36:29 pm »
Using EA build 844 (7.5.844) we have found that in a BPMN 1.1 process diagram that when you add an activity into a lane the activity sometimes disappears from view in the project browser. If the lane that the activity is in has not other elements inside, there will be no '+' to indicate that the activity is in that lane even though there is an activity in the lane.

It is possible to verify that there IS in fact an activity in the lane by generating the html report which will show how it should be.

With the 'invisible' activity, using the function 'find in project browser' will move the scrollbar of the project browser to the place where the activity should be, but the activity remains invisible.

Any ideas on what is happening here? the resulting problem is that for rtf documents if the doc order is based on order in the project browser but you cannot see the item in the project browser there is no control over order in the documents.

Just a guess since I have not tried this out...

Is it possible you are exceeding the depth that the Project Browser tree displays? Try raising either or both of the Hierarchy View options at the bottom of the Tools | Options | General dialog.
No, you can't have it!

It is very easy to miss this.

Care to guess how I know that?  :-[

I take it this config setting is a new feature in one of the recent builds?

Just curious.  The options mentioned should have no affect on the project browser.  They are for the hierarchy window.

I have come across a limit of depth in the project browser.  But even then it shows the child item.  It's also so deep that you are unlikely to ever see it without programmatically inserting child elements.

Why did you think those options might help?  More importantly, how can they possibly be helping?

Oh.  And those options have been around since before version 4.0 I think.

Not sure how it could help but from my observation it DID help

It seems interlinked with the new performence of nesting lanes into pools in BPMN diagrams which has changed in one of the last few builds. Is there any documentation on what has changed? The EA help doesnt seem to be updated but the function is definitely different!
