New RTF Generator vs. Legacy generator
« on: September 18, 2009, 01:25:15 pm »
Why does it seem I can get all of my linked elements generated from legacy RTF generator and not with the newer one? I have tried both setting the checkbox in each individual diagram to "Document each contained element" and on the generator itself select "Include all diagram elements", but all the newer generator does is give me the package name of the linked element and not everything that goes with it.  However the legacy generator will drill down to the linked package and give me it's Diagram, it's block, and all interfaces linked or embedded.  Wtf? Seems like a regression to me.

I need the formatting of the new generator coupled with detail of the old one. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks for your help.

Hi,
it is important which version of EA do you use. Unfortunately each version of EA has got own different bugs :(.

I had a similar problem to get linked elements which are placed in different packages than diagram is. As I know the last functional version where individual diagram settings "Document each contained element" was possible to setup is 7.1.831. Subsequently several version of EA RTF generator ignored this settings. It was only possible select "Include all diagram elements" but not individual setting for each diagram.
Now it already works - some EA version 7.5.xxx but I am not sure which the build repaired it exactly. It certainly works in latest version 7.5.848.

Suki,

Thx for your response. I am using 7.5.847 and for some reason it wont work.  I've even edited my template to use any fields that I feel would pull the data.  Is there something I am missing? I have read through the User Guide, the RTF Whitepaper, and EA help, and they all say it should work, but all I get is the package names of the linked items and not the diagrams and elements of those linked items.  While the legacy generator gives me everything.

Thx

Ryan,

I you look at the version history you'll see that release 848 was mainly there to fix some serious issues with the RTF generator.
I would try to upgrade and then try again.
If it is still not working send a bug report to Sparx.

Geert,

Thx for you reply. I upgraded to 848 and tried again but to no avail.  What I am trying to do is that I have some nested package diagrams, and on the leaf package diagram I have component packages dropped on there that have a BDD diagram and block within them.

The Legacy generator will Display those BDD diagrams and all the elements on that diagram and their attributes for each component package in the leaf Package Diagram.

While the New generator is just populating the Component package names for the leaf Package Diagram.

Very confusing.
