Diagram into an object : package selection ?

Hi all,

is this a bug or can this feature be considered as "normal" ?
When you create a new diagram into a new element, this diagram is correctly set in the project browser into the element, but... both the diagram and the package(that contains the element) are selected in the browser (where we could have expected that the element - instead of the package - is selected).

From my point of view, this is not really annoying. The problem is coming from newbye users I have to work with : here is what they do :

• they select the element in the project browser
• then they add a new diagram into this element (add diagram menu or quick-link button)
• the diagram appears as a new window, then they add a new element in this diagram from the toolbox
• finally, they want to erase immediately this object... making a ctrl+suppr key operation

The problem is that even if the newly created element appeared to be selected on the window, the containing package and the diagram are actually selected in the projetc browser.

The Ctrl+Suppr operation then deletes the whole package.

I know this is kind of the user fault, but this behaviour (keeping the selection of the package in the project browser) is a bit suprising.

Did you encountered this kind of experience with your users ? What is the position of Sparx on this subject

This all wounds weird.  In my 5 years of using EA I've never seen anything like this (and I've found some "doosies").

What's you're setup?

In my experience, if you've selected the element on the diagram, then any selections on the browser are deactivated (the selection highlight changes). and so only the elements in the diagram are selected and purged (Ctrl+Del].

Can you also please advise which build you are using? I just tried the steps your mentioned in our latest development build and:

- The new diagram is selected in the project browser when it is created.
- The new diagram remains the only object selected in the project browser when the element is added to the new diagram from the toolbox.
- Only the element is deleted when I press [Ctrl]+[Del]

I can confirm that.
I've just tried those steps as well on 7.5.850 and only the newly created element on the diagram got deleted.

We use the 7.5.850 build.
If you formaly select the element in the diagram, this problem does not occur.
It occurs only when you create the first element in the diagram, using the toolbox... and then doing nothing else : the element "appears" selected in the diagram,  where the diagram and the package are still selected in the project browser.

To mrf : the diagram and the package are selected in the project browser... but this occurs only when you create a diagram in an element !

I know, this is a really particular actions sequence... but this is actually what some of my newbye users do.

I'm sorry, but that was exactly what I was doing but I don't have the problem you described.
The package never gets selected on my machine.

mmmm.... I really don't understand.
Perhaps this is because we have activated our company-specific MDG profile ? I really can't see where this could have any influence...
This problems occurs here for standard objects as well as for profile-specific objects.

I can go further than Geert...

Even if the package is selected manually (like Geert, it's never selected automatically) in the browser; once I have the element in the diagram and delete from the diagram it ONLY deletes the element.

Again what, exactly is your setup?  Are you running on Windows or some other OS?

Hi all,
sorry not having reply earlier, I was focused on more urgent work these times...
I am really confused since I am not able to reproduce the bug anymore, where it happened everytime a month ago !!!
My configuration has not been changed since this time : windows XP, EA 7.5.850, same "home" add-in versions...
I have tried to reproduce it activating/de-activating my plug-ins... same results as yours from now  

Perhaps it is related to the EAP file itself (my last tests occured on a new file)... I will try to investigate (if I have the time for  :-/).
