854: Spelling Dictionary - Lost settings
« on: April 01, 2010, 08:51:06 pm »
In my version of v8 Beta 3 (build 854), the spell check dialog has been changed to remove the ability to set the dictionary and other options (the last two lines of buttons - as shown in the Help).

Before I report a problem, is it the same in yours?

If you try to spell check any HTML notes fields, the HTML Is not suppressed and will trigger spelling errors.  This is ridiculous!

I thought there were some settings to control this...  But now I can't get to them...

TIA,
Paolo

Paolo,

I can confirm this as well.  We do a monthly full project spell check before publishing a version of our model and we have just found out that we can't access the options the way we previously did.

The previous was badly structured but in V8.0 we cant find how to change the options at all.

Can you explain specifically what options you used to have that you now cannot access? The Check Spelling dialog has been changed recently, but the amended screen capture did not get into the Help in time. However, as far as I can establish, the only options that have ever been documented are those that are still documented.

To change the spelling language (and hence the spelling dictionary) you use the Tools | Spelling Language menu option.

What else have you been able to do?
Best Regards, Roy

Hi Roy,

If you look at the current image on the Help  (856) and the actual dialog,

The [Dictionaries...] and [Options] buttons are missing!

They are very important (if not vital) in an enterprise situation.

Thanks for the reply.

The specific options which we used regularly were accessed from the option button on the "Not in Dictionary" dialog that comes up when a mis-spelled word is encountered.

On the options screen, I could choose to ignore mixed alphanumeric words, all capitals, domain names among other things.

as the Options button is no longer on this screen, I have not been able to find where I should change these values within EA.

I have managed to set the options by accessing them through the registry but I would like to set them within EA  (and ideally from the scripting engine)

I have checked release 7.5 and the "old" Spell Check dialogs, and the functions that are no longer available.

When you submit the bug report, can you please specify the functions that you want restored (along the lines of David's last post), to keep the subject crystal clear. Thanks very much.
Best Regards, Roy

For any reading this post, a bug has been lodged with Sparx about this matter.   The bug was titled "Lost Ability to Change dictionary Settings"

RoyC

As I mentioned in the Bug Report, I cannot easily rollback to 7.5 to see the options but I later realised, I can check the options in the registry so the options that matter most to my organisation are:-
  IgnoreAllCapsWords
  IgnoreCappedWords
  IgnoreDomainNames
  IgnoreHTMLMarkups
  IgnoreMixedCase
  IgnoreMixedDigits
  IgnoreNonAlphaWords

I hope this helps

Thanks for the details. Support should be able to explain the history and future of these facilities.
