855: Locking: missing new group
« on: April 20, 2010, 03:56:38 pm »
Hi!

I switched to the new version and did this:
- opened a new group
- set permissions for this new group
- assigned a user to the new group
- went to a model and tried to lock it to the new group
- did not see the newly created group among other existing groups.

Using accdb as database.

Hi Aljaz,

is that as a Server or as native .EAP file (use of accdb DB)?

Hi!

I don't understand what you mean. Instead of using native eap file I chose to migrate it to an access database, which is also a file. It's not run on msde or something. Just plain old (well, new) access database file.

And I'm kind of confused as to behaviour I already described. It's not straight forward to reproduce and I haven't found a pattern when it occurs and when not. What I mean is,
- first I thought the group list from the drop down list under locking option is somewhat limited and because there is no slider some groups probably fall out of the listing,
- then I again created a group with a somewhat intuitive name "A" and it appeared in the list. I didn't check the number of groups though shown in the list.

So I'm really confused about it. I managed to create a group and get it listed but am not still sure of why in previous attempts it didn't appear.

You do realize that the native eap file is just a plain old ms access file with a renamed extension? :-/
So all you needed to do to migrate to an access database was... well nothing 8-)

I am very well aware of that. It's just that I decided to do a single corporate project file and since it would be to complicated to explain our IT how to do either oracle or svn I chose the most obvious way - the newer file format that shouldn't be size limited as the older ones were.

On the other hand I also believe that you have to move to newer things as they appear. MDB is slowly on its way out.

Just an update:
I switched back to eap from accdb because it's not stable enough for production use. Things dissapeared after compacting/repairing database, auditing didn't work, etc.
