Linking to unselectable Text items
« on: June 07, 2010, 12:45:17 pm »
I've noticed that you can create links to unselectable Text elements (including hyperlinks).

This is inconsistent with other element types (haven't done an exhaustive test, but that seems to be the case) - which don't allow you to connect to unselectable elements.

Before I report a bug - is it one?

What is an "unselectable text element"?

I now noticed that text elements have a quick linker and you can connect to elements. I would think that this is okay. A text element is just a note without border.

Hi b,

An Unselectable Text Element is a Text Element that is marked "Non Selectable".   (Note for the newbies, a Hyperlink is a subtyped Text Element.)

I have no problem having the QuickLinker available for Text Elements - my point is that for most other elements if I mark THEM as non-selectable, I can't QuickLink or draw any toolbox relationships to them any more.  In the case of Text elements, you can.  I can't see any rationale for making them different.

Can any Sparxians provide an insight or is it a bug?

I'd say it's EAUI (in other words: a bug). Though I also think it's very minor and the developers should take care of more important issues.

Agreed the manifestation is minor, but the bug may be manifesting a much larger "can of worms"...

I'll put in a bug report later...
