Resizing diagram labels in Enterprise Architect
« on: August 10, 2010, 07:45:33 pm »
Re: Enterprise Architect 7.1  (build 833)
Hi All,

I have no idea how I can reliably get my labels to display as multiline. Some of the time I manage to get it to happen. When I finally get my labels to display over  two line I have no problem going back and forth between one or two lines (by simply resizing the rectangle). But to get a label to use two lines in the first instance, uses a kind of magic touch that I can not fathom. PLEASE PLEASE, someone tell me that there is logic in this feature (or confirm that it is a bug).

State transition on state diagrams and messages labels on sequence diagrams exhibit the same issue.

I am starting to wonder if you need to release the resize drag exactly at the correct pixel to yield two line display.

Over to you.

It's not a bug, it's a feature. This is windows world? What else do you expect. For extra strangeness encountered in EA this is called EAUI (EA Unique Interface).

Labels are always single line in first place. The only handle is the rectangle. You probably need the right spirit here...

Hi to all that may have noticed the same issue.
I am now pretty sure this is a bug. It seems that if you draw a label on a diagram in 7.1 you wont be able to resize the label text, until you close the diagram and reload it. Then it seems EA will let you resize it to give multiline display.

Hope that helps someone out there.

If so, you will get the answer: upgrade to a newer version. 7.5 and 8.0 don't have that problem. So you must not waste your time reporting a bug here...

Actually I believe that this is still an issue in 8.0 (860).

I find that, say the name in a class rectangle, sometimes does not wrap when it should.

The way EA should behave is that the name should have a 'label box' of it's own (similar to the way a name on a connector works), and that 'label box' can be resized independently of the rectangle.

You may find it difficult with Actors where labels wrap sometimes (after auto layout) and don't (after re-opening the diagram). I filed a bug for that some time ago. There is not rectangle. Use Cases have a strange behavior too. Especially with the lying eight which is not respected in any way.
