How to suppress Element tooltips
« on: February 05, 2011, 03:40:46 am »
In version 6.0 EA introduced:
Miscellaneous :
Mouse over diagram elements now shows tooltip

The tool tip shows part of the Notes property of the element (if it contains text).  This is very useful if the Notes are not visible (either no Notes compartment or no feature-linked Note)

Many of my diagrams show the notes of the elements via the Notes compartment.  In those cases the tooltip is quite annoying.  Many of my users are complaining about it, but I can't see how to modify/suppress them.

Anyone know how (or should I report a bug)?

I reported the missing ability to turn it off as bug shortly after introduction. These tooltips are worthless in more than 90% of all cases (since they echo what the menu itself says). So you can save your time. It will not be fixed.

Hi q,

While I agree that the normal EA tooltips - being tautological - are a bit pointless, I'm talking about the Diagram Element tooltip which is related to the contents of the diagram element the mouse is hovering over.

There should be an ability to control/suppress them because of their (potentially) large size - and especially if the Notes text is already visible.

I agree, the element tooltips is one of the latest annoyances introduced in EA.

Paolo,
my desperate point was that when there is no option to turn off the absolutely useless default tool tips Sparx will most likely not introduce such a switch for something being a bit useful.

I guessed that's what you were trying to say but I still felt it was important to make the distinction - and you never know...
