Error linking objects
« on: January 21, 2012, 08:20:51 am »
I'm using EA 7.5 (Build 843). We're using a SQL Server DB (DBVersion 4.01, Jan-31-2004, according to the Help menu). Over the last day or so, I've started getting the following error when I attempt to link objects (using dependency arrows, note links etc.) on diagrams within our team's model (containing system engineering artifacts only).

"Microsoft OLE DB provider for SQL server [-2147217833]
Arithmetic overflow converting IDENTITY to data type int"

which is quickly followed by:
"ADODB.Recordset [-2146825069]
Operation is not allowed in this context"

As an example, I can't even attach a note to a use case on a use case diagram without EA spitting out the error.

Other users of the same model don't seem to have this problem, until they open an artifact that I've created. If they do open one of my artifacts, they get the same problem.

Any clues on what I should be doing? I've uninstalled, and reinstalled the client, and rebooted the server hosting the SQL DB.

Don't know if that helps but deleting and re-creating the malicious element might help.

D-a-m-n, I've seen that error before, but I don't remember how I fixed it :-[
Have you tried resetting the id's?
(Tools|Data Management|Reset IDs...)

PS. I'll let you know if it comes back to me...

Maybe the integrity check can help?
