General Board / Re: Linking Parent and child Activity diagrams
« on: June 21, 2005, 08:00:58 pm »
Hi Guys,

Thanks for this discussion - you helped me to work around quite a frustrating limitation. Currently I follow these steps to link an existing diagram to an activity

1. Drop a Subactivity elemnt on my current diagram I'm working with
2. Delete the empty diagram under the activity in the Project View
3. Drag and drop the existing diagram on to the activity in the Project View
4. Right click on the activity in the working diagram and choose the "Composite Element" option on the Advance Settings menu
5. Do that again - it now reads "Set as Composite Element"

Now, when double clicking on the activity, it will open up the diagram - linked!

Cheers

Thanks Kevin

Because Business Modelling is quite new to me, I still have a bit of a problem getting my head around the relationship of Use Cases and BPML (or BPEL?). I don’t want to double up. In other words, if I use the Erikkson-Penker notation, do I still need to do Use Cases, and if I do, at what stage should I use it?

Thanks

Egbert

Tom, I'm basically in the same position than you, and would like to know which of the profiles listed on the EA UML Profiles page would be the best to use for Business Processes.

I'm also new to EA, and look for some ways to make models with EA which can be converted later to BPEL.

Also, if I use the diagrams in one of these Business Process profiles, how does it relate to Use Cases?

Thanks

Egbert

Hi Christian,

I saw your question to be relevant to problems we experience.

We are building a reference model in EA and we struggle to generate the right XSD for the model.  We would like to import the XSD model into a tool like Altova Mapforce to do mapping between our reference model and various other system meta models.

We found that Altova ask for a "root element" and if you select any of the classes (as a root element) it only import the XSD for the root and his directly associated classes.  The rest of the model is ignored.

I don't know much about namespaces but could this be the problem?

Many Thanks,

Egbert
