Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Notes connected to relations

I'm trying to manipulate diagrams through the automation interface, and most everything works as advertized. (okay, I'm American and I use "z" as George III did).
The one issue I can't seem to do is add a note linked to a relation. The notelink approach works for elements but connectors aren't elements. Even in the EA user interface, notes and links to elements or to connectors are not handled, nor do they behave the same way. Adding a note to an association modifies MiscData(3) but in automation that is readonly and no function seems to be able to modify it. It also bothers me that something this simple requires backward engineering a Sparx internal data structure which is not guarenteed to be stable in the next build.
Q: is there a way through the automation interface to add a note linked to an association, or other relation?
