Uml Process / Re: Copy (or export/import) scenarios across eleme
« on: February 11, 2013, 12:47:17 pm »
Thanks for the info,

The Debug feature is great, I'm glad it's available in EA10.
Unfortunately, in my company, the policy from the Enterprise Architecture office is that Business Analysts and Testers are not allowed to run scripts in the EA model, as it contains the whole IP of the company and we don't want too much noise added by automatic creations from scripts without rigorous management.
Maybe I should suggest different behaviour for EA when we click 'Generate Testcase' from activity elements.

Cheers,
Hieu Phan.

Uml Process / Copy (or export/import) scenarios across elements
« on: February 08, 2013, 02:15:47 pm »
Hi Forum,

We have a challenge about copying Scenarios (Steps and Results) across elements. Our situation is:

We use BPMN1.1 to capture business processes in EA, for the <User> Tasks, we capture the steps of human system interaction in the Scenarios tab.

For test management, we use Enterprise Tester to integrate into EA. However, ET only support requirement and testcase importing. Therefore we have to copy all existing scenarios to the scenarios in testcase to import into ET (The 'generate testcase' function in scenarios tab doesn't help when it generate an testcase with empty scenarios tab).

Do you know any way to copy scenarios quickly without using programming API?

Many thanks,
Hieu Phan.

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Re: BPMN Simulation
« on: May 02, 2013, 06:46:31 pm »
Thanks Dermot and RoyC and pr1smiley,

You answers helped me a lot. Now I can set the variables in the Activity itself (using the Script tagged value). But when I run Simulation on diagram 1, it starts running on diagram 2 instead (I have 2 BPMN diagrams under the same package). Although I didn't open diagram 2 but it still come up (I guess the simulator is confused which Start Event to start from).
How can I specify which Start Event (or which diagram) to start?

Thanks,
Hieu.

Thanks so much HTH, you advice really helps. Now I can set a variable and let the outcoming sequence flow of the gateway evaluate the variable's value to go through.

I have another question. As the simulation scripts only apply at the package level, how can we set it to run only for a specific diagram. It seems that I can't specify the 'Entry Point' for BPMN simulation (I tried to point to a Start Event but it didn't allow me).

Thanks,
Hieu.

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / BPMN Simulation

Hi all,

Anyone used the Simulator for BPMN business proceses. I'm struggling using this when the process has gateways in it. I don't know how to specify condition expressions so that the simulation goes through a gateway, it works fine for BPMN diagrams without gateways (both BPMN1.1 and BPMN2.0). I tried specify conditions for incoming and outgoing sequence flows, but don't know how to declare a variable (the simulation error message is that "the variable is not defined"... Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Nick,

I think it's a good work around too.

Hi,

My situation is that we have many composite elements (i.e. elements having child diagram so that when people click on them they will go to the child diagram). If users use EA, they can see the properties window by right-clicking the element and select Properties... However, for people who access the website, they can't navigate to the Properties page of these composite elements (i.e. they can only click on the element and it go straight to the child diagram). Is there any way for the users viewing the website can choose between going to the Properties page and goging to the child diagram?

Many thanks,
Hieu Phan.

Thanks so much Simon!! It really helps. Cheers!!

I rekoned that the list was expanded as soon as we install new MDG technologies such as TOGAF or BPMN. All extended relationships from TOGAF and BPMN toolbox (e.g. Establish, Evaluate, PerformsTaskIn...) are shown in the list. Not sure if there is any setting to register new link types to that list.

Cheers!!

Hi all,

Anyone knows how to make Relationship Matrix recognises more Link Type. I created an new MDG technology with some extended relationships and elements (new stereotypes), all works fine except that I couldn't use Relationship Matrix because my new relationships are not recognised. Anyone experiences the same issue?

Kind regards!!
