Suggestions and Requests / Re: RTF Reporting for requirements enhancement
« on: October 22, 2007, 09:13:43 am »
- In the RTF Editor,  select Edit | Edit Style...
- As prompted in the Edit Stylesheet dialog, select the style that you want to edit
- Select OK
- Make the necessary adjustments in the ruler
- Click anywhere on the page to end the editing
- Save the RTF template.

Edit the styles in your RTF template to include indenting. When you generate your document it will automatically apply the style that corresponds with the element's level in the project browser. I do this all the time and it works great!

Suggestions and Requests / Bug? – single element RTF doc omits child info
« on: September 22, 2006, 07:48:29 am »
BACKGROUND INFO:
I am using EA version 6.1.790.

My Use Case View has the following general layout:

Package
-Use Case Diagram
--Use Case
-----Activity Diagram
----------Initial
----------Activity1
----------Activity 2
----------Activity 3
----------Final
--Use Case
-----Activity Diagram
----------Initial
----------Activity1
----------Activity 2
----------Activity 3
----------Final
--Use Case
-----Activity Diagram
----------Initial
----------Activity1
----------Activity 2
----------Activity 3
----------Final

Each Use Case element may have constraints, scenarios, requirements and files.
Each Activity element may also have some or all of these.

When I generate RTF documents from the Package level, my RTF templates recursively return all this information very nicely since they include the <<Child Elements>> section.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
However, when I open the Use Case Diagram, select a single Use Case element, and generate RTF documentation, the information returned for the Use Case element is fine but the information for the child elements does not include scenarios, constraints, internal requirements or files.  It DOES include element name and notes, and external requirements though.

This occurs when using existing templates in EA as well as my own customized templates.

I have been unable to find any RTF help file or documentation that describes this behavior.  Is there something I am missing or is this a bug? This is a significant limitation in reporting capability as we need to be able to generate detailed documentation on either one or multiple use cases (i.e. single element or package).

Here is an example of the RTF template layout:

package >
element >
{Element.Name}
{Element.Notes}
requirement >
{ElemRequirement.Name}
< requirement
external requirements >
{ElemExtRequirement.Name}
< external requirements
constraint >
{ElemConstraint.Name}
< constraint
scenario >
{ElemScenario.Scenario}
< scenario
file >
{ElemFile.FilePath}
< file
child element >
< child element
< element
< package

General Board / Re: Moving rtf templates between projects
« on: November 21, 2009, 05:16:15 am »
Are you specifically looking to export a single RTF template to XML? If not, you can definitely export/import single RTF templates from one project to another.

Open the template, select File Export.  Go to your other project, create a new blank template and select File Import.

General Board / Re: Diagrams in RTF are  resized based on monitor

Since no responses were received, I reported this to Sparx. They have confirmed it and logged it as an issue.

General Board / Diagrams in RTF are  resized based on monitor res
« on: November 11, 2009, 06:23:30 am »
When I generate an RTF document, the diagrams are resized. In my case, they are scaled down to 63%. If I open the same EA file on another computer and generate the same RTF document, the diagrams may be scaled down, scaled up or even distorted (height and width percentages are unequal).

After much testing and troubleshooting, I found that if I change my screen resolution, the diagram scaling changes too! Currently, I have to set my monitor to an undesirable 1600 x 1000 pixels in order to generate documents with diagrams at 100% scaling.

I have tried all the scaling options within the EA application and nothing helps or alters this situation.

Has anyone else encountered this? Is there some way around this issue or is it a bug that I should report to Sparx?

Thanks all!

General Board / Diagrams reduced in size in RTF generated docs
« on: January 09, 2009, 09:28:55 am »
When I generate RTF documents (using any template) my diagrams are all reduced to 63% or 64% of the original size.  I tried the "scaled printing" settings in the Diagram properties but it makes no difference.  How can I keep my diagrams full size in my RTF docs?

(I am still using ver 7.0.815 due to some corporate licensing issues. I will upgrade as soon as I can.)

Any ideas?
I have a lot of diagrams and I don't want to have to resize the images individually in the final output.

General Board / Re: Appearance of Notes

It is available in the "UML Elements" toolbar (not the toolbox).  Go to:  View | Toolbars |  UML Elements

How about just using a "text element" instead of a note?  You can configure it with a border color and move it in pretty close to the text so that there is very little margin.

Maybe.  I would highly recommend making all RTF template changes within the RTF template editor.  There is a lot more capability there than most people think.

Sorry, I am unable to reproduce what you described.  I added about 3 pages worth of text into the requirement's notes but the template works fine for me without any page breaks.  I tried this with both 6.5 and 7.0.

In your RTF documentation template, set the Document Options to "Hide <Anonymous> elements".

General Board / Re: Has ANYONE EVER been successful with EA?

I have experienced some of the "weirdness" that you described when I first got started with the RTF editor. It took some getting used to but once I got it figured out I realized that there are some pretty cool things you can do with it. Yes, there are still annoying limitations. We also have to set up packages in a certain way but as long as you set standards then your reports will come out looking good!

I have gotten very creative with the RTF editor using styles, tables, and a lot of interesting formatting techniques.

Given the troubles you describe, my recommendation is to always copy the "basic" template and modify it to suit your needs.

We generate several different reports in EA and then run a macro in word to combine them into one final document.

Thank you for the clarification!

I don't see this constraint element.  The common elements list (accessed via the quick linker) that I see only includes:

Diagram Frame
Boundary
Note
Text
Diagram Notes
Diagram Legend
