Suggestions and Requests / Re: Creation of supporting 'child' diagram
« on: October 16, 2008, 01:15:21 pm »
No - did not realise it was there.  Have tried it now and it worked well except for one thing.  Great - have learnt something There are so many things I do not know in EA!

The one problem:  at the higher level, if I have a data flow coming out of it and I assign it a link name eg 'Depoist Slip', when I create a child diagram, I should be able to create a link with the same name from one of the pocesses and not ahve to create a dummy destination (external or process object).

Years ago I did use a DFD drawing tool and it carried dataflows from parent process to child diagram automatically.  All one had to do was to join to appropriate process in the child diagram.

Still on DFDs, is there a way of defining data elements for a dataflow similar to columns for a table?  After all, this is what a dataflow is representing.

Suggestions and Requests / Creation of supporting 'child' diagram
« on: October 16, 2008, 10:30:21 am »
Under structured methodology, one should be able to create sub-diagram to support an object in the current diagram.

For example, when doing a data flow diagram, if I have a process called "1 - Deposit", it would be great if I could from it create by right-clicking to create a supporting diagram of the same name.

This means in HTML, I can click on my process and this would take me to the child diagram etc.

This would work well for a number of diagrams, not just DFDs eg use case, deployment diagrams etc.

Currently my work around is to create the sub-diagram, then drag and drop in parent diagram and create a hyperlink next to the parent object. This is cumbersome and creates makes the diagram a bit messy.

I would like to see a port of EA to Mac OS X 10.5.

Is this on the cards at all?

It is good to be able to rotate labels for links.

Can we have rotation capability added to Text Element too please?

:)

Suggestions and Requests / Re: HTML - Open Attached File in New Window
« on: March 08, 2006, 05:46:54 am »
Yes - I know but just think that from user interface point of view, it would be more natural to just click a link to the picture and get it in a new window.

Thanks anyway for responding.

Suggestions and Requests / HTML - Open Attached File in New Window

I love the generated HTML documentation but found attached files is a nice but painful for user navigation.

I would like to see an option where when one clicks on the link to an attached file, it will be opened in a new window.

In this way the user can still read related comments and notes, without doing browser back and forward etc.

Suggestions and Requests / Attached File Ordering
« on: February 23, 2006, 10:48:10 am »
Generally there is a move object up/down to sequence items in a list.  However, this is not only missing from EA 'Files' tab for objects, but the displayed list is sorted in the tab. While the generated HTML output is in the  order the files were attached.

If I have diagrams of events, I need to control the order in which the user will view them!

Suggestions and Requests / Data Dictionary
« on: February 17, 2006, 12:58:46 pm »
I would like to be able to define a set of columns/elements for my database eg cust_id, cust_name, amt_value etc.

Then when I define my table, I want to be able to select from this list of defined columns/elements.  In this way, I can ensure that cust_id is always called cust_id and is 10 characters etc.

In a way, it is similar to existing tags but a special kind that can be called upon forwhere columns are needed.  I think of them as 'data tags'.  Each tag has a unique label but could have different label.   As an example, 'status' could be such a tag, but could have different set of values, depending on which table/object it is attached to.

The power of this is that when I define interfaces, if I use these pre-defined  columns/elements, I have a good way of doing impact analysis of changes required etc.

General Board / Re: Mac and crossover installation
« on: June 30, 2009, 01:42:22 pm »
Masoud,

Am not sure if the following will help you at all.

I am not using Crossover with my Mac - have been using Parallels.  I have installed EA and even did an upgrade from Desktop to Professional.  Everything works like a treat.

Cheers,
Chun
