General Board / Finding unused elements?
« on: February 26, 2020, 11:00:49 pm »
Hi!
Is there a search or report to find all unused elements? That is, elements in the Browser (model) that do not exist in any diagram?
It would be importand in order to clean up trash from the model.

(f.ex. Archi shows them with italic font in the Browser)

Hi!
I found similar bugs from the export as well and reported them.
The developer team has confirmed that they are all bugs and will be fixed in some future build.

General Board / Re: Giving a stereotype for an ArchiMate element?
« on: February 26, 2020, 10:48:48 pm »
Hi Eve,
I'm using 15.1.
I tried to add a stereotype of my own in addition to ArchiMate stereotype, but it vanishes and cannot be found from anywhere. The funny thing is that when you're creating the stereotype it does not ask to which group it should be in or whether it is user's own group of stereotypes.

Thanks Geert, that helped :-)

General Board / Re: How to create an ArchiMate model?
« on: February 26, 2020, 10:26:19 pm »
Thanks Eve for your answer  :)
I noticed that it is possible to create a diagram simply under the layer.

My question about the folder structure refers to that many ArchiMate tools create automatically folders for different kind of elements. F.ex. for business layer objects separate folders for business actors, business roles, business processes etc. So it is easy to find suitable object / element from the Browser (model) to be reused in diagrams.
But maybe I have to do myself to make it easier to find suitable existing elements when there are hundreds of elements in the model.

General Board / Giving a stereotype for an ArchiMate element?
« on: February 18, 2020, 11:44:25 pm »
Hi!
How can I give a stereotype for an ArchiMate element?
I understand that they are built on top of UML elements with stereotypes. But UML allows to give several stereotypes for one element, so this should be possible...

General Board / Font size huge in Diagram tabs
« on: February 18, 2020, 11:39:45 pm »
Hi!
Where does 15.1 take the font size of diagram tabs? It seems to be huge and thus there fits only a few tabs visible on the diagram area. I have not found any place in preferences so I could set it smaller.
The headings in Browser, Toolbox etc. are big as well.

General Board / How to create an ArchiMate model?
« on: February 18, 2020, 11:20:36 pm »
Hi all!
How can I create an ArchiMate model WITHOUT any viewpoint?
Viewpoints are not simply used by enterprise architects - they are too restrictive. I need a model that contains all layers and aspects from Motivation, Strategy, through core layers to Implementation and Migration in one model.
And that creating the model would create the standard folder structure for all elements.

Or that I could create a model of Business layer without any viewpoints?

I know that Sparx EA is not accredited tool by Open Group. But I was hoping some proper features would be in place...

I have created ArchiMate models without viewpoints with version 13 but now it seems that it is impossible?

Thanks, Geert, I will.
I did not notice that before.
(The same with the other bugs as well)

Hi!
I was terrified to notice that there is no 'Delete from Model' in diagram /element speed menu.
That is a crucial command if you do not want to get your model into a junkyard.

Luckily I found from an older help that the command is Ctrl+Delete, and that still works.
So please, get the command back to the diagram /element speed menu.

Hi!
The printing diagrams in horizontal does not work properly.
Even though I have set 'show diagram page borders' landscape (yes, I know that's not printing...)
and set printer properties to landscape printing, the print comes in vertical. And the preview does the same.
Set printer properties seems to nullify right after I leave the window, because the next time I go there it is again vertical.
The only place that seems to work is EA menu's Page setup. When printing right after that I'll get the horizontal printout.

This same "feature" was in older versions and was corrected, but now it seems to have surfaced again...
(I've been using EA since version 3.0...)

By the way, it would be nice if I could change the portrait/landscape from Print preview... or go to Page setup from there.

Hi!
It seems that importing ArchiMate diagrams from another Open Group Accredited modeling tool does not work properly. That is, the ArchiMate Import Model Exchange File creates some relationships in a wrong way.
Here are the bugs I found:
- All associations are created as one-directional associations even though no such things were in the original model
- Access arrows point always towards the object element even though that is not the case in the original model. Some of them should be pointed towards the other element or should be two-ways (= arrowheads in both ends)
- An object connected with an association to the flow arrow is not allowed even though it is basic ArchiMate. It does not come through the import either.
- Both composition and aggregation relationships show up with arrowheads even though there should not have ones.
- Realization relationships have a yellow filled arrowhead even though it should be empty.

It seems that every diagram needs to be inspected and corrected :-(

By the way, the same import into Archi went beautifully...

General Board / Guarding a namespace?
« on: November 25, 2015, 04:59:00 am »
I noticed that EA does not guard namespace any more in the repository. So it is possible to create two processes or other items with the same name in the same package.

Why is this? The whole idea is that we have one element only once in the package, even though it might appear in several diagrams.

And if there are two same kind of elements with a same name, how can I merge them? To get rid of duplicates.

Bugs and Issues / Re: BPMN BusinessProcess looks like UML Element
« on: September 01, 2009, 11:49:07 pm »
Hi Amidala and Christine,

Have you found the answer for the process symbol yet?
The EA administrator answered but did you get the idea?

I try to clarify. BPMN is really originally an add-in, so you cannot use the normal properties as with UML. The business process symbol you see in the toolbox is meant to describe a very high-level process that could be shown in a process map. It is not really part of BPMN standard at all but an extension of it.

The "plus sign" subprocess you can find from EA, but it is not a separate tool but an attribute of an BPMN activity. To define these attributes (like subprocess, loop, triggers etc.) you have to define them into the element's Tagged values.

The Tagged values you get when you select from main menu View -> Tagged Values. Then you see in the right bottom corner a separate Tagged Values window which contains various attributes. These attributes vary according to the element you select from the diagram.

So, subprocess you get by 1. draw an activity and then 2. select Subprocess for an activity type attribute in the Tagged Values window. And voila! The plus sign appears in the activity symbol.

I have to say that originally I tumbled into this guidance by accident when I tried to learn how to create BPMN with EA. The help is not very good.

Bugs and Issues / Re: Generating BPEL from BPMN diagram?
« on: September 08, 2009, 05:46:06 pm »
Hi!

I have the 7.5.843 Corporate Edition and from the comparison table I saw that code generation is not supported. I have to think about whether to upgrade...

Thanks, RoyC, from the link!
