Suggestions and Requests / Test Cases on Lower Level Composite Use Cases
« on: September 18, 2005, 12:59:40 pm »
Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the right location to report a software problem or issue.  Our company has one person which maintains the Registered Userid so I cannot report problems/bugs through "Report a Bug" web page.

I've run into a problem when adding Unit Test Cases on lower level composite Use Cases (e.g., a Use Case under a Use Case used for grouping more than one Use Case together for business functions).  The Test Case is produced on the RTF output file for the top level Use Case(s), but the lower level Use Case(s) will not produce a Test Case output on the RTF file.  EA let's me add test cases on the lower level Use Case(s).  This makes our RTF Detail Design documents imcomplete.  I do not want to bring the Use Case(s) up to the highest level as they would not create an easy to read detail design document.  Can this issue be corrected?

Bill Schuyler

General Board / Re: 5.0 RTF Generator
« on: June 02, 2005, 11:53:04 am »
To produce RTF documents we have been using the Model Document (Class) method within EA.  Version 5.0 of EA does not allow you to select the new RTF Templates when you generate the document from the Model Document.  It only allows you to select a "Style" of <basic>, <format> or any Legacy style templates which have been created.  Is there any way to select the New RTF Templates when generating RTF documents under this method?  I realize you can select New RTF Templates when you generate the RTF document from a package, but the Model Document method allows you to group packages together to produce a single RTF document.  I would like to be able to apply a new RTF template against the Model Document (Class) to produce my final RTF document.

Any help or suggestions on this topic would be most helpful.   ???

Regards,
Bill

General Board / Exporting/Importing Packages (Diagrams w/ Images)
« on: August 12, 2005, 02:24:26 pm »
I've been running into the problem for some time now and was hoping the build releases would correct the issue.  Here's what's happening at our company.

1.  I perform an Export on a package in one EA model and select the checkbox "Generate Diagram Images" with the format of Metafile or BMP or GIF.
2.  The export from EA Model #1 is successful.
3.  I then perform an Import on EA Model #2 with the .xml file from EA Model #1 (setting the checkbox Strip GUIDs).
4.  The import takes place and the diagrams are displayed.
5.  The images which were part of the diagram are either totally incorrect or non-existent.  I must import each image into the Image Manager separately in EA Model #2 and then proceed to correct every diagram which has an image on it by "Selecting Alternate Image" and selecting the image I just added to the Image Manager.

This situation is very time consuming and costly for our company.  It would seem to me when you export the package from Model #1 it should carry along the Image Name and ID from the Image Manager and when you Import the package via the .xml file into Model #2 it should take the images and automatically load them into the Image Manager in Model #2 and directly link the image to the diagrams as they are called out in Model #2.  This would save a lot of "recreating the wheel" activities we must go through everytime we Export/Import packages.

Is there another setting of some type I'm missing to make this process happen or is this a deficiency in the toolset?

Bill

General Board / Images in RTF Documents Using Version 5.0...
« on: June 02, 2005, 12:22:07 pm »
We've run into a situation at our office.  One of our analysts upgraded her version of EA from 4.51 Build 750 to version 5.00 Build 765 and is having trouble getting  images (diagrams) to display as part of the final RTF document.  She did not make any changes to her configuration setup between the old version of EA and the upgraded version.  We have looked at every possible location in EA in which to control image displays within RTF documents and everything looks like it should be producing the images.

We took the exact same model (located on a shared drive) and brought it up on another laptop which has EA 5.00 Build 765 and it produces the RTF document with images.  We're at a loss on how this can be happening.

The analyst even changed output images file types and was able to get an image to be displayed when set as BMP, but the image was very grainy and hard to see.  Ultimately, she went back to version 4.51 Build 750 and can now produce the RTF documents with images (diagrams) as EMF types.

Can anyone help out on this situation and provide some additional suggestions or is this a bug in the current release?   ???

Regards,

Bill
