Nice discussion  :)

Having a technical / IT role I would agree to Geert that these diagrams are part of a model and show real consistency and the "truth". I find it very interesting to have an addon that shows incomplete connectors, since in reality I made some connectors a second time because I didn't remember that they have been excluded. ;-)

On the other hand, if we make diagrams that have a business or architectural focus it is sometime useful to reduce complexity and from my point it is not an option to make separate paintings in Visio for that reason. It is the advantage of such a tool to have all these information at one point.

When reusing class-type elements from a class diagram in another diagram, the relation between the classes are shown in the second diagram as well. I can manually exclude these connectors from the diagram, but excluding a whole bunch of connectors manually when adding data elements from the business data model is an inconvenient job. (Especially when it is not possible to mark several connectors and hidem them in one run).

I have learned, that it is possible to prevent this behaviour when you drop an instance of the object but it is not possible to do it when dropping a link. Another tool I know acts exactly the other way round - hiding implicit connectors is standard off but can be switched on. (Which has some other issues).

I suggest to offer a "hide connectors" option during the drop process even during link dropping.

General Board / Alternate view of package diagrams

When 'packing' single elements into a package, the package contains the single elements in a "list view" as shown in the example to a "full view" where all the elemnts are shown with their shape ? I don't mean, that I have to manually arrange the shapes.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Definition Drop Behaviour
« on: February 10, 2017, 07:19:30 pm »
Thanks, thats 1/2 good news - I didn't find that one. But as I understand, this event only shows if an element is dropped from the project browser and is not thrown as a element from a diagram directly is thrown on another diagram ?

As I know it from other tools, I strongly vote to add this to the mdg mechanism without using an API call.

Suggestions and Requests / Definition Drop Behaviour

Hi,

is there any chance to allow the definition of a drop behavior ? There are already some defined behaviors like setting partnerReferences but when I go a step further dropping a role from the organisational model to a partner role that implies setting a reference or creating an association would be helpful.

As far as I have understood the API only the event of a new element is monitored but not dropping an element. Ideally, it would be possible without any Add-In using something like the QuickLink mechanism.

Thanks, Marcus

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Web-Interface for Keystore Server

Sure, but you need access to the server for running it - which is sometimes not possible due to separation of concerns.

Suggestions and Requests / Web-Interface for Keystore Server

We run several floating licenses and sometimes run into the problem that all licenses are gone and we just want to know which team mate we should ask to log out during lunch time.

I have seen a workaround here to scan the logfile but this is not a commom solution since the logfile is on dedicated sealed server.

I suggest to implment a web-interface either for the complete administration (with a usage view first) or a dedicated license-in-use webpage on the server which allows any remote user to check the license state (other tools have choosen that options).

Thanks,

General Board / Re: Formulas (LaTex/ MathML) in diagrams / requirements

Yes that was one of my ideas as well - but as far as I have seen I cannot easily drop an image on a diagram without using the image manager ?!

General Board / Formulas (LaTex/ MathML) in diagrams / requirements

Hello,

I am working with a customer on a project which focuses on implementing a set of mathematical functions for risk calculation. We model all the processing flows in EA and are now at the point that we would like to add the calculation formulas to the model as well.

As far as I have understood EA it is only possible to enter RTF documentation in EA. The documentation of formulas needs more sophisticated features like MathML or LaTeX. Therefore it is not possible to enter the formulas directly as a property, the only way is to add them as an OLE object in an attached document to the artifact. This has disadvantage, that the formula is not visible in the diagram.

I have found an interesting tool for the combination Powerpoint / LaTex that is an addon that allows to enter Latex source and shows them as image in a powerpoint presentation: http://www.jonathanleroux.org/software/iguanatex/. On the other hand, the handling of images in EA seems to be limited to the image manager therefore it seems difficult to show any image on a diagram.

In theory it could be possible to draw the latex formulas in shapescript, but this would mean to compile the latex source with a shapescript target (which is a nice task) but the shapescript box is limited in size.

Any ideas how to proceed ? Thanks

Suggestions and Requests / Zoom on Selection in Diagrams
« on: January 23, 2017, 09:31:00 pm »
Hello,

i found an old post suggesting a "Zoom on Selection" feature:

When I have large diagrams and I want to Zoom into a certain box in the middle or off to the side of things, it would be beneficial to have a "Zoom to Selected Object(s)" function that will zoom to whatever I have selected as the center instead of the page center.

I can't see, whether this feature has been delivered in the meantime - I haven't found it. Is this still an open request or does it have been solved
