Actually there is kind of a way to do it: If you select an operation in the project browser and then create a new diagram, this diagram will be created inside the operation.  But this relationship only exists in the project broswer.  And as soon as you drag the diagram outside the operation then you can't drag it back in.  And you can't move existing diagrams into an operation.
Given this lack of support, I suspect that the ability to create a diagram inside an operation is just a bug, and it is probably best not to use it until it is properly supported.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Activity Diagrams for Class Operations
« on: April 27, 2005, 08:58:34 pm »
I agree that this is a good idea.  I would also like to have sequence diagrams in a class operation....this would allow me to do high level sequence diagrams that show the major method calls, but by looking in one of these operations one could discover the lower level methods that are being used.

Anyway, the suggestion was made 2 years ago....has anything happened?

General Board / Linking with documents
« on: November 04, 2004, 05:10:47 pm »
Hi all,
I can place hyperlinks into a document that opens up the relevant EA file...but I want it to open the file and also go directly to the relevant diagram.  Is there a way to do this?  (My document editor is OpenOffice - similar to MS Word - but I don't think the document editor should make any difference to the solution)

A related question: I can link from EA to documents in OpenOffice (or MS Word), but can I link to a particular part of this document?

Regards,

Charles

Uml Process / Activity diagram modelling
« on: February 24, 2005, 06:30:42 pm »
I am trying to do a use-case diagram for a graphics application with activity diagrams to describe each use-case.
The problem is that to carry out an action such as "draw a circle", you must first log on the system and open a file.
1) I do not want to have "log on" and "open a file" at the start of every activity diagram.
2) Generally, when a user decides to "draw a circle", he will already be logged on with a file already open.

So is there some standard common way to model a use-case without having to put "log on" and "open file" at the beginning of every activity diagram?

Cheers,
Charles
