Suggestions and Requests / Re: EA Remote Repository for Oracle 9i

As of build 788, it didn't do so for me. :(  Once I had the sequences in the db, it did set them to the appropriate values...

Suggestions and Requests / EA Remote Repository for Oracle 9i
« on: March 23, 2006, 05:34:46 am »
Been a user of EA for over a year now, and the organization I'm with upgraded to corporate edition.  So in taking advantage of the remote repository concept, I hit a few snags with the instructions for using Oracle 9i that I have some suggestions for. :)

1. Oracle seed script.  The necessary sequences for the repository are not in your script that you direct people to.  I've put together a script that creates them and I'd be willing to post it here for inclusion in updated scripts.

2. Oracle OLE-DB adaptor.  Found out (the hard way) that if you have the Oracle 10g client installed, putting the 9i OLE-DB adaptor seems to corrupt your Oracle installation.  A warning in the instructions would help people with this. :)

3. Would it be possible to update the repository schema so that it could host more than one project?  Our DBA pretty much flipped his lid when he learned he would have to create a new schema for every EA project we create (that we want in the remote repo).  I know we could put all of our org's models into one giant model, but it seems kinda messy that way and an administrative nightmare (to manage users, models, permissions, etc).

4. The MDAC requirement is outdated - if you have Windows XP sp2, you don't need to install it.  And if you don't, they're on version 2.8 now. (the links to 2.6/2.7 are dead)

Suggestions and Requests / Re: EA for Apple Mac (OS X + Core Duo)
« on: September 01, 2006, 09:56:04 am »
Great news - so far, EA 6.5 beta works on the Crossover beta for Mac OS Intel!  Just doing basic stuff, and I can create a project, add nodes, create a class, modify it.  So far so good.

Just install the Crossover beta.  Then grab the 6.5 beta.  Install it (the installer hangs at 0% remaining - I cancelled out, but it 'took').  Just minor issues so far, with some graphic repaint issues (black areas on the screen, which apparently the Linux version has too).

So, is Sparx tracking this too?  If so, will you guys provide a Mac version like you do the Linux (bundled with Crossover)?

I'm very happy now that I can use EA on my Mac!!!

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Port to OS X?
« on: May 30, 2006, 12:57:43 pm »
Ok - I'm a recent Mac OS X convert (love my MacBook!), and my only complaint is that I can't run EA short of remote desktop to a windows machine.  Any serious chance at seeing this port?  I know that EA runs against Access out of the box, but the corp edition runs against a ton more dbs.  I'd suspect that running against Postgresql or something similar on the Mac platform would be sufficient.  There's quite a few others where I work that are recent converts too and are all lamenting the lack of EA. :)

General Board / EA 6.1.789 - Oracle Generate Sequences
« on: April 12, 2006, 02:23:41 pm »
When generating sequences for Oracle off a database diagram in EA, is it possible to prevent the autonumber trigger from being generated along with it?  We use Hibernate's id generator so we don't need it.  Right now, if you turn off triggers it doesn't generate the trigger, but it doesn't generate the sequence either.  Would be nice to have an option to generate sequences w/o triggers.

Any suggestions are much appreciated!
