Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Using IDL in v14.1
« on: February 14, 2019, 11:14:58 am »
I feel kinda goofy here ... in previous versions I would install the EACorba and I would get IDL as one of my language options. This allowed me to import IDL. For some reason I cannot even import IDL in v14.1. Can anyone help?

On the flip side, if someone could point me to how to generate IDL from a Data Model, it would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!

Specifically what I think I am asking for is that when I add a "related file" from the properties of an object, that there is the simple ability to indicate if that file should be displayable (and maybe only graphic files can become displayable) in a report instead of just a reference to that "related file". I realize that any type of file can be related, so maybe not all file types can become rendered in reports.

I know that I can "drop" external graphics into daigrams so they become printable in reports. However, this provides me with two problems. The first is that it would seem to make the EAP file unnecessarily large since these diagrams are not easily rendered in BPMN, UML or SysML. The second is that these diagrams need to be periodically updated by the graphic artist and it will become a more complex process "fixing" the diagrams.
It would be VERY convient if the external files capability allowed the option that makes the file render in a report. This way the report is always current with the current graphic and no extra work.

Thanks. While it seems that will make the EAP file unnessarily large (I have lots of diagrams that are not easily renered with BPMN, UML or SysML), that will solve my problem.

General Board / Display an external graphic in Report?
« on: May 30, 2014, 09:54:24 am »
Anyone know how to make a graphic file like a JPG or PNG printable in a report? I have several files linked to a business process that I would like to print following the business process diagram and elements. I can get the "link" of the graphic to print but not the graphic itself.

OBTW does anyone know of a business process template instead of building one that is more sutied to describing a process and not just the model elements?

Thanks

I got myself into a jam and did not get to backup a new project I created. The file got crrupted on an import and when I went to use the Data Management capabilities to repair the EAP file, they are not there. All I have is Shared Repository ... and Manage Firebird File as menu items.
I had to do this a while back in V9 and it worked fine.

Thanks for any help

General Board / Document Generation is not available
« on: March 12, 2014, 08:21:22 am »
I have been using the EA v10 for a while now on a company machine that was running WinXP, but last week they "upgraded" me to Win7 64.
I installed EA and all the addins and all of the functionality seems to work except the documentation icon has no associated text and pressing F8 does nothing. It's almost like the document generator is not installed, but how can that be there is no option to exclude it.

OBTW ... my company removes admin rights so a reinstall is not an easy option :-(

Thanks

OK ... while that sounds useful, I am a Systems Engineer and I need to find a script kitty to figure out how to do what you suggested.

I will also create a Trouble Report

Thanks

General Board / RSA import difficulties
« on: January 29, 2014, 01:27:13 am »
I am trying to import a RSA model using XMI and seem only to get the top level structure. After some difficulty, it seems that the folks who built the RSA model have used components within the structure and put packages attached and subordinate to those components. ALL data subordinate to those components that were contained within packages are not observable. When the "subordinate package" is moved above the component for import it becomes observable. The interesting thing is that the file size does not seem to change when moving the package subordinate to the component to become observable.

My question becomes is this behavior by spec or a bug or something else? The workaround sorta is to move the package, export and not comit the changes in RSA. Not really scalable though.

General Board / Glossary Import?

I have hunderds of glossary terms that I would like to bring into EA. Is there some manner other than retyping each one to bring them into EA?

General Board / Can I CSV export/import class attributes?
« on: August 10, 2012, 01:29:53 am »
I have figured out ... fairly quickly how to export/import the names and descriptions of classes and type defs, but I need to update MANY attributes and definitions. Going into each individual attribute is very time consuming.

Is there a way to export attribute data, update it then import the changes? It would be nice if this could be accomplished at the package level.

General Board / Change Type for MANY attributes?
« on: August 10, 2012, 02:06:48 am »
Is there a way to "batch" change the type of many attributes? My problem is that I currently have attributes typed as primitives and desire to all of those primitives to a specifically named type def.

Is there a way to do a find AND REPLACE for types?
