General Board / Hide node classifier names in deployment diagram?
« on: February 07, 2013, 02:53:50 pm »
Hi,
I am probably missing the obvious - is there a way to hide the classifier name for nodes in a deployment diagram?  ie. I have classifiers for the varies types of servers in a service catalogue, have named instances of those nodes in a deployment diagram, but only want the name to appear on some diagrams, not the <name>:<classifier name>.
Thanks,
Peter

General Board / Best way to model physical & logical storage
« on: March 27, 2012, 05:04:05 pm »
Hi,
Does anyone have a view on the best way to model the relationships between data, LUNs, SANs, servers on which the LUNs are mounted, and comms between the servers and SAN?

To date I've used non-standard stereotyped associations, but have found using them laborious in EA.

Peter

General Board / Connector labels - rotation/align with connector?
« on: March 19, 2012, 11:51:38 am »
Hi,
Is there any way to align middle label text with the connector line segment it's sitting on/attached to?  Or to manually rotate other than 90 degrees at a time?
Thanks,
Peter

for what it's worth I also searched for this for ages before finding it.  :-[  Adding to the context menu would save similarly blind users some time!

General Board / Link type between Component and interface
« on: February 08, 2011, 03:07:04 pm »
Hi,
I have Components that own Interfaces, and have dependencies between the Interfaces (Provided and REquired).  I want to get a relationship matrix showing which RequiredInterfaces are owned by what Component, but can't figure out the Link Type.  In the XMI it's a collaboration, but nothing appears in the matrix when I try that.  Any ideas?
Thanks,
Peter

General Board / Resizing a composite without ports moving
« on: August 16, 2010, 03:13:16 pm »
Hi all,
Does anyone know if there's a way to resize a composite component without the ports on it's surface moving?  I spend ages making the connectors from internal elements (within the composite) to these ports look aesthetically pleasing, then find that a resize of the composite is required, which means going back and adjusting all the connector vertices again!   :(
Thanks,
Peter

General Board / Re: Best way of recording review comments on a Mod

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Is there a simple method of seeing what posts in the Discussion Forum an element is linked to without going through the posts?

Peter

General Board / Best way of recording review comments on a Model?
« on: May 05, 2010, 08:54:25 am »
Hi,
We're starting out implementing EA as our preferred design tool.  We develop models for our own products and services, and for customer projects.  In each case we need to perform internal reviews and obtain feedback from customers.

What's the best way of providing the model for review (ie. EAP with EALite), and recording feedback so that it can easily be associated with the model?  We currently generate documentation but is there a better way?

Thanks for any ideas!
regards,
Peter

Bugs and Issues / HTML from root Model - no Default Diagram?
« on: May 10, 2012, 12:31:34 am »
Hi all,
I am generating HTML from the root Model, and want to select Current Diagram as the Default Diagram on the Generate HTML Report but this option, and Model Default, are greyed out.  If I try to choose Other Diagram there's nothing in the displayed list.  If I generate HTML from one of the sub-model roots eg. Component Model all options seem to work OK.  I'm sure I used to do this, pre 9.3, from the Model root - can anyone confirm?  Any idea why it's no longer possible?
Thanks,
Peter
