Bugs and Issues / Update on bug 20054675?
« on: June 24, 2020, 02:27:32 am »
Is this the right medium to track bugs?

I reported bug 20054675 a couple of months ago and I wondered if there is a future version where it will be fixed?

Bug is around report templates: Create a new blank template, doesn't matter what sections etc you setup, but the report generation fails. Workaround is to create a new template as a copy of a system template and remove all content. Also means you can't import headers, footers and styles from a corporate word document (RTF).

I just discovered that you can just press 'a' to open the attributes dialog box too! 'o' for operations, and various other keys. Don't even need alt or ctrl.

Yes, I know a client who tried that! Its just text manipulation, but messing about in XML isn't for everyone.
This seems like an obvious (and easily filled) gap in the tool.

I've often read through here, but rarely posted anything. Thought it was high time I join the party. So the EA novice/user/guru rating isn't how much you know about EA, its how many posts you have done!! Nice. lol

Anyone know how do I update my user profile? It shows me as a EA novice, but I am a consultant/trainer at Sparx Services UK (Hippo Software)!

Bugs and Issues / Install Help Locally

V14, Help menu/button/ribbon option (what is the correct name for these button/menu things?)

On the help menu button, there is a sub-option to install help locally. This goes to a broken hyperlink. This is an essential option for anyone who uses EA in a non-connected environment, like a training course for beginners!!

This is a question I have never quite got around to asking for months. Is there a way (a simple, non scripting way) to import a list of glossary items. CSV import is only for real project content, so I can't find a way to use that.

Bugs and Issues / Inline name editing on new elements
« on: May 10, 2018, 12:08:11 am »
V14 seems to have turned off the option to show the properties dialog box when you create a new element. This has been replaced by the element name being highlighted for immediate edit when you create something directly on a diagram from the toolbox. However, this only works for UML elements. For ArchiMate, SysML, BPMN (probably others?), now when you create an element from the toolbox, it appears in the project browser and on the diagram, but the name is not selected for inline editing, so you have to either move over to the properties window, or press F2, or slowly click on the element twice. Just to add a name to a new element.

This new inline editing as default option is great, but it needs to work for all elements!

Bugs and Issues / Opening windows harder in V14
« on: May 10, 2018, 12:05:35 am »
We run lots of training and consulting in Enterprise Architect. One of the first things we take users through is how to arrange their workspace and how to open various windows. During training and for new users, windows often get closed to gain space in the current diagram. Especially on small laptop screens.

In V13, you simply used the window (house icon) button to see a list of windows you can open. On a cramped laptop screen, this is a very easy way to re-open windows that you had to close to gain space. In V14, this nice user-friendly feature has been hidden away. You now have to press the Portals button (new name for the house icon), then choose window, which opens the portals window (taking up more space that you were trying to save) and then you can access the list of windows. Then you can open the window you wanted and finally close the portals window to get some space back.

I know you can save a workspace layout, but when you are new to EA, you don't know what workspace layout works for you.

Is there a way to re-instate the V13 Windows (house icon) functionality - maybe list all the windows as a sub menu under the V14 Portals button->Window option?

Or just create the triggering relationship on the bus process to itself, then drag to move the start of the line to the event!

13
I just checked this and can confirm this doesn't work. Open an existing ArchiMate Bus Diagram and all is fine, but create a new bus diagram in EA 14 and you can't connect the Event to the Process with Triggering. Just get the error reported above. Can't find an obvious workaround either!

Bugs and Issues / Re: Activity Loop Node Resize Problem
« on: May 09, 2018, 07:59:22 pm »
Totally untested suggestion - hold down the ALT key while resizing to see if it makes any difference?

15
When you drag an element on a diagram, EA will reflect any structural changes in the project browser. I.E. if you drag one element on top of another, EA will structure the element inside the other in the project browser. If you drag an element out of another on the diagram, it will reflect in the project browser. If you have manually structured elements in the project browser, then move them on the diagram then EA will detect that the element is not structured inside anything and move it up to the top. This is default behaviour. Hold down the Alt key whilst moving on the diagram to prevent the restructuring. There is a setting in the options to turn the restructuring feature off (holding Alt then makes it work).
