General Board / Re: Searching linked documents

Yeah, thought you'd say that Geert ;-)

Had the same issue with the audit and had to write a batch to extract and denormalise the data so the custom add-in search could work at a decent pace.

Sigh. Here we go again :-(

General Board / Searching linked documents
« on: February 07, 2012, 06:50:08 pm »
We have some information that we store in linked documents as notes fields cannot contain tables.

Any ideas on how to search all the linked documents in the repository for a given string?

Ideally it'd be nice if simple model search did this :-)

General Board / Diagram searches not working in model documents?
« on: July 22, 2010, 10:34:00 am »
Hi All,

I'm building up a technical specifications sucking multiple document artefacts, diagrams, etc.

So I'm using master documents and model documents.

In my model document I'm using a custom search that finds diagrams and it seems that this fails every time.

Anyone else experience this?

I'm using composite objects with multiple diagrams under it, as well as packages containing multiple diagrams, so the searching is really painful...

The only thing I can think of is to exclude diagrams from generation on the diagram properties.

Anyone with other suggestions :-)

Hi All,

We've recently discovered that copying and pasting a package with quite a few diagrams, elements and other packages is causing blocks on the database and is stopping all EA activity for that DB.  Also other people are unable to log on.

The copy is taking about a minute and the paste takes about 14 minutes.

Anyone seen this?

Even though we could structure things a little differently, it's scarey that one person can do this.

Dang, thought I'd tried that.

Many thanks

Bugs and Issues / GUIElements that change their location
« on: September 23, 2011, 02:56:18 pm »
Hi All,

Now I can understand this behaviour is expected in most circumstances, but in this one it's a real pain.

We have quite detailed wireframes, which typically have group boxes within group boxes and then may have a button in it.  In the project browser they are all nested nicely.

We create screen navigation diagrams, where we drop a screen, and then only the GUIElement that triggers navigation to another screen, i.e. normally a button.

Unfortunately when we move that button, it then shifts the button to be the child of the screen - very very painful.  This then stuffs up the order in document generation.

Anyone know of a way to prevent this behaviour?  Have tried locking items, making them non-selected. No luck.

Ideas?

Thanks

Colin

Works a treat, thanks!

Bugs and Issues / Traceabilty View data types incompatible
« on: August 18, 2011, 01:39:51 pm »
Since the upgrade to version 9 (build 905) I get a "The data types ntext and nvarchar are incompatible in the equal to operator." when I click on anything in the project browser when I have the traceability view open.

The view doesn't load either :-(

Using the 64-bit SQL Server 2008 R2 native client connectivity...

Any ideas?

Bugs and Issues / Requirements default type not shown
« on: June 07, 2011, 11:33:37 am »
If you create a requirement, and don't add a stereotype, it gets created using 'functional' or the template type, but in the project browser, it shows no stereotype until you go in and change, for example, the notes.

Any idea on how to get around this other than entering a stereotype in the add element dialog as we want create requirements with no stereotype.

Bugs and Issues / Disabling "You should complete configuration" msg
« on: March 17, 2009, 02:43:20 pm »
Hi,

I am working in an environment with 100s of EA users.

I want to put a couple of branches under version control, but this means that EVERYONE gets that "Version control details for XXXX haven't been fully..." message on login.

Unfortunately, not everyone has access to TFS.

Is there any way to suppress this message?

I've removed every version control setting from the security group but they still get the message!

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Expanding nodes on Mind Maps
« on: October 05, 2012, 10:50:08 am »
I've been looking at Mind Maps after a Dr Dobb's update about this topic as a lightweight way of capturing requirements and design information.

I've tried the Mind Map MDG but it doesn't support the whole double click to expand and contract areas.

When I thought about it I can't remember any profile that allows this "In current diagram expansion".  Is there any?

In the meantime I've made a composite diagram to get something like it, and also messed around with increasingly sized fonts to zoom in and out to reveal details, but both solutions are clunky and take away from the simplicity of a true Mind Map.

Any ideas on how to improve this or how to make an MDG to support this?

Excellent!

I can't find any evidence :-(

Basically want to verify and update some values based on criteria after a user edits an element.

E.g. if a requirement is edited in a certain location in a model, it should prevent any stereotype at all, so my thoughts were to set it back to "" and save it transparently to the user.

Online's the keyword - don't you ever just like a bit of offline documentation :-)
